According to Google, "Ethical sourcing" means ensuring that the products being sourced are created in safe facilities by workers who are treated well and paid fair wages to work legal hours. It also implies that the supplier is respecting the environment during the production and manufacture of the products.
Whilst this statement is undeniably accurate, it rings of a statement that a big 'corporate' company would make.
We are a small company and as such endeavour bring to our ethical sourced supply chain much more of a one-to-one relationship with the artisans we engage with.
We select people to work with us based on more than just the cost of supply, but also quality, talent, uniqueness and their underlining circumstances. Once selected, we endeavour to work, train, develop and fine tune their talents so to maximise their potential to earn money - money that really helps them to change their circumstances.
The people we select to work with are often one man/woman entities who struggle to share and communicate their skills to the wider world because of the environment in which they are placed. We aim to change this by providing them with a 'communication vehicle' through our online shops.
Therefore ethical sourcing to us is to ensure that our supply chain values, respects and adheres to the above "corporate statement" but also enjoys their trade, is proud of what they achieve and understand that they are respected by us as skilled artisans and therefore get a fair price for their high quality work.
